Project Details

The Madonna & Child Waterfall is the crown jewel of Hogsback - the largest waterfall in the area, a sacred place for many, and a breathtaking natural wonder that has inspired locals and visitors for generations. If you’ve ever walked the trail, you’ll remember that first moment of awe as the waterfall reveals itself in the heart of the forest.

But today, the walkway leading to this heritage site is falling apart. For decades, Hogsback locals have maintained the trail on shoestring budgets and community donations, but the wooden structure that makes the steep 460m stretch accessible is now beyond repair and must be completely rebuilt. Without it, safe access to the waterfall will be lost.

We have been in contact with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE). While they have granted us permission to replace the walkway, they unfortunately have no budget to fund the project.

That’s why the Hogsback Trail Maintenance Team is turning to you. With your support, we can:
✅ Replace the 460m walkway on the steep trail
✅ Ensure safe access for old and young, locals and visitors
✅ Protect and preserve this heritage site in the Auckland Forest for generations to come

We’ve already gathered quotes from reputable contractors and will appoint the best supplier once we have the funds. Every contribution will go directly towards the rebuilding of the walkway.
